Sharon Napanangka Butcher

Sharon Napanangka Butcher is an Aboriginal artist from Papunya, a community north-west of Alice Springs that is celebrated as the birthplace of the contemporary Aboriginal art movement.

Her artwork is inspired by the Bush Banana Dreaming (Yuparli Jukurrpa) — an important story passed down through generations that reflects the deep relationship between people, Country, and native foods. The bush banana, a climbing vine with nutritious fruit, is a traditional food source and symbol of growth, connection, and life.

Through her intricate dot work and organic flowing designs, Sharon captures the movement of the vine across the desert landscape and the richness of the Dreaming it represents. Her paintings are a celebration of ancestral knowledge, culture, and the continuing strength of Papunya’s artistic tradition.
