Valda Napangardi Granites
Valda Napangardi Granites is the granddaughter of two of Warlukurlangu Artists’ founding members — the late Paddy Japaljarri Sims (1916–2010) and Bessie Nakamarra Sims (1932–2012).
Born in Alice Springs in 1974, Valda grew up in Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal community located 290 km north-west of Alice Springs — the same place she proudly calls home today.
Her paintings depict Jukurrpa (Dreaming) stories passed down through generations of her family — creation stories that connect deeply to the land, animals, and natural features of her ancestors’ country.
Beyond her art, Valda is a devoted mother and community member. She previously worked with the Yuendumu Old People’s Program before dedicating her time to caring for her daughter and continuing her family’s rich artistic legacy.
