Description

Sharon Numina

Sharon Numina Napanangka (born 1981) is a distinguished Aboriginal artist from the Central Desert region of Australia. She is a member of the Anmatyerre language group and hails from the lands of Stirling Station (near Tennant Creek, NT) and the broader Utopia region.

Sharon is one of six sisters (and three brothers) born to the celebrated painter Barbara Pananka Mbitjana (also known as Barbara Price), who taught her daughters the art practice rooted in their desert country.

Sharon’s work focuses on themes such as bush medicine plants, bush tucker, “My Country” dreaming, emu and thorny‐lizard tracks, and women’s ceremonial body-painting designs. Through layered dots and fluid sweeping lines, she translates her cultural knowledge and connection to her ancestral landscape into vibrant acrylic on canvas works.

Today, Sharon lives in Darwin along with her sisters, where she continues to produce works that both honour her cultural lineage and shine as contemporary art pieces appreciated by collectors throughout Australia and internationally.
