Susie Pollard
Susie Pollard is an Aboriginal artist from the community of Mount Liebig (Watiyawanu) in the Central Desert of the Northern Territory. The region lies west of Alice Springs and is part of the Western Desert cultural landscape, an area known for its strong painting traditions and deep connection to ancestral Country.
Susie’s artworks reflect the stories, landscapes and cultural knowledge of her homeland. Through the use of traditional iconography, rhythmic dotting and flowing patterns, she represents important features of the desert environment such as sandhills, waterholes and sacred sites. These elements are connected to Dreaming stories that have been passed down through generations and continue to guide cultural life today.
Artists from the Mount Liebig region often paint from an aerial perspective, showing Country as it is understood through memory, ceremony and ancestral story rather than from ground level. Susie Pollard’s paintings carry this tradition forward, translating knowledge of Country into vibrant contemporary works.
Her art celebrates the enduring relationship between people, land and culture in the Central Desert, sharing stories of place while maintaining respect for the traditions that inspire them.
